End of Summer, 2009

 I've been experimenting quite a bit with encaustic lately - not much to show yet, but I'm learning a lot.  I love the deep luminosity and intense color that encaustic wax makes possible, and I love the wax surface and texture.  Photos don't communicate the tactile qualities of a wax encaustic surface, which are very different than oil.  

I recently attended a meeting of New England Wax, a group of professional artists working in encaustic. We met at the ICA in Boston, and the whole day was very inspiring. 

So,  this month, three new oils, and three experimental encaustic / oil paintings:
